David Rovinsky, MD
Orthopaedic Surgeon
Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Rovinsky worked in the computer software industry and he has devoted his career to the integration of technology to orthopaedic surgery.
Dr. Rovinsky helped develop the NAVIO Robotic System for Partial and Total Knee Replacement and was the first in Hawaii to do a robotic assisted total knee replacement. He also has been integral to the development and design of total knee replacement implants with a focus on enabling athletes to return to high levels of function such as surfing. Dr. Rovinsky was the first in Hawaii to do a bicruciate sparing total knee replacement – a total knee replacement which preserves both the ACL and PCL. Dr. Rovinsky has also been a pioneer in the development of digital fluoroscopic navigation of total hip replacement with Orthogrid. He was the first in the state of Hawaii to use digital navigation for total hip replacement which enables us to use computer aided design technology to precisely restore normal hip anatomy. Dr. Rovinsky helped introduce the direct anterior approach to total hip replacement to Hawaii and also performs direct anterior total hip resurfacing. His practice includes revision total hip and knee replacement for complex failed total joints.
Dr. Rovinsky’s practice draws patients to Kauai from all over the state as well as the mainland who come to Wilcox Medical Center for Total Joint Replacement Surgery. Current projects in development include the use of augmented reality tools for orthopaedic surgeons to improve accuracy and precision in joint reconstruction and the use of virtual reality for training orthopaedic surgeons in novel procedures.
Dr. Rovinsky was awarded and completed an AO Orthopaedic Trauma fellowship at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem with a focus on Computer Navigation in Orthopaedic Trauma.
Dr. Rovinsky loves Kauai and enjoys surfing and spearfishing.
Dr. Rovinsky hosts a Visiting Surgeon’s Program (VSP) where surgeons come to learn new techniques in robotic assisted total knee replacement and direct anterior hip replacement. He has hosted surgeons from all over the mainland US, Hawaii, Australia, and Japan.
